I’m also assuming that this is where her name was changed from Maverick to Magic, as Mr. Bernetti owns Magic Custom Homes. After her time in Florida, she was moved to Georgetown SC where I know little of her. Around 1994, John Cagle of Sullivan’s Island bought her as an interim boat. He had had built one of the first batches of Jarrett Bay boats—the Big Newt—but had sold her. Another boat was being built, but Magic was used to keep on fishing ‘till the new one was finished. |

In 1996, I finally got to where I thought I could get my own charter boat and got in touch with Johnny. He had just talked with the brokers about selling her, but had signed no contract. I went down and saw her, and she was perfect for what I wanted. Big enough to be a “real” boat, but small enough to me maintained by me, and I really liked the open salon for fishing. A couple of days later I handed him a check. That’s when he told me that I better make tracks as Hurricane Fran, “a new Hugo” was bearing down. |
